hail to the theif is a great album, but some songs stick out way more than the others....and the clapping song (forgot title), i think, would be cooler if it kept speeding up towards the end instead of just slowing back down. overall, worth owning.

Las mejores A Wolf At The Door, When i End And You Begin, I Will, Sail to the Moon y Myxomatosis

Everyone who thinks that radiohead have lost it are not paying attention to the right things. I have always had a hard time figuring out what york is singing, but it has never bothered me. as long as the music and the voice carry through the emotions the way they do, they have done a good job. a good song evokes similar feelings from inside as the artist is expressing. if you dont feel a weird sensation run through you when you hear their music.... well then i guess you're numb. if you saw their SNL performance you could tell they are unlike anyone else. I love britney. i really do. but dont be knockin one of the best bands of the last decade

syrajews  2003-06-06 20:15:26

I love it, but I'm getting the feeling that it's a throwaway album from the bands point of view. It seems to me that they want to tide us over until their next alteration. Either way, its a great album, I just hope its not their last (why am I getting this neurotic??!?!)

hail to the thief is far from my favourite radiohead album. it's good and all, but i expect better from them. is that unfair? so sue me. it's certainly nowhere near as good as kid a. there are a handful of very good tracks on it, like where i end and you begin and a wolf at the door, but not they're not enough to make it a classic album in my opinion. and, as with amnesiac, the flow isn't too great. seems to me like radiohead are stuck in neutral: they need to disappear for a few years again and come back and surprise us like they did with kid a. we'll miss them, but it'll be worth it!

That Be The X  2003-05-27 21:05:46

Hail To The Theif, Radiohead's 6th album just goes to prove what The Bends, OK Computer, Kid A and Ammessiac kept telling us. Radiohead's music transends Rock, pop and all other genre. It forms it's own universe and takes apart the values of all things. Each song seem bend and distort the feelings and expectations we may have. The only real way to get the full enjoyment of this album is to listen to it over and over in an isolated envirorment and then walk outside. When outside you'll notice the cracks in the pavement and then holes in the ground more than before. This album proves once again Radiohead is the bar that all music should be set against.

veiw radiohead as art not music and kid a and amnesiac look different. angelic. veiw ok coputer this way orgasmic and phenominal. preamature notions towards these feelings were deveolped somewhat with the bends. And it all started with creep though compared to the acoustic version which is an out of body experience, pablo honey creep is dirt in my toe. Radiohead is not real nor music nor noise from speakers. evertything is interpretation and you out there who are "disappointed" with kid a and amnesiac need to remove your mouth from the critics dicks. but who am i to say anything this is just an interpratation of what i read. Httt is an evolutionary step. it is not pre- kida and amnesiac it is pre-music. they prodcuce music that rediscovers thoughts about everything that matters and doesnt. art.

During the past few years, I have become a little disillusioned with Radiohead. The result of a couple of mediocre records and a thoroughly disappointing live show, I guess. But I have to admit; I think this is a fucking brilliant record. When I first heard “there there” it bored me. But after a few listens it’s eerie Joy Division meets Neil Young groove started to grow on me, so I decided to check the rest of the album out, and I was stunned. This record is going to be a fierce wake-up call to a music industry that is saturated with shitty, overrated Velvet Underground and Stooges cover bands. I can’t wait for kids to hear this album. Time to cut that hair and start hating yourself again!! A+

Obviously I'm missing something here, from listening to the album, I'm struggling to find a single song that I'd say is worthy of any of the first 3 albums. For me thay've lost the plot completely, if you want to read a good review of this album read the latest NME 7/10 at best and certainly nowhere near the genius that was OK Computer. They were once a great experimental rock band, now they are simply a mess.

I think Kid A & Amnesiac saved Radiohead from what could have happened after OK Computer if they hadn't made those albums. Most tracks on Kid A aren't as complicated as OK but truly and simply are more inventive and progressive. It's major sci-fi emotional wreck with Kid A and don't get me started on Amnesiac. Pyramid Song, You and Whose Army, Knives Out and track #5 are worthy, highly unique, fucking beautiful, severly atmospheric (more then OK) Radiohead songs. I say there's no debate. I'm waiting like a diligent little boy to feast all ears on me on Hail.

Duncan  2003-04-29 02:49:58

At this point in time I'd say that Hail to the Theif is Radiohead's best album. Big call but it is. Its kind of like what youd expect they would have produced between ok computer and kid A, but has a depth that would only have come from years of mastering the experimental sound. Even though it sounds like a kid a/okcomputer hybrid the sound has still evolved. It has more piano, vocal harmonies and a higher emphasise on drums than heard before. All band members seem to be in fine form and the blended sound works perfectly. Its like radioheads previous albums have all been in preparation for this. Time will tell to see if it has the longevity of the bends, ok computer and kid a. but know it looks like been as a whole a stronger album with fourteen great tracks. Stand outs include 2+2=5, Wolf at the door, Sit down Stand up, Sail to the Moon and Mixamotosis. Buy this album, quite simply its the best Ive heard ahead of greats like White Album, Dark Side, and LA Woman. Radiohead at their haughtingly beautiful best.

Yes, I admit it. I am a big Radiohead fan, so take this comment as being biased if you wish. However, upon stumbling across the leaked tracks on the net, I was a little hesitant to be too excited about it- already hearing live versions of Sit Down,Stand Up, Sail to the Moon, Where I End and You Begin, We Suck Young Blood, and There There, in addition to being mildly disappointed with Amnesiac and Kid A. I heard rumors that Amnesiac and Kid A were supposed to be one album, I have yet to believe it, but I wouldn't be surprised if they had some of the material from both albums in the works at the same time, and just decided to master them in two seperate waves. But, whatever. To me Hail to the Theif (or what Hail to the Theif is at this stage) is somewhat of a return to what Radiohead was (aka pre-Kid A). You won't find too much straight-forward mainstream rock here, but what you be listening to Radiohead for if you were wanting that? It seems on this album, Radiohead has mastered their experimentation of using electronic gizmo-gazmatry in that everything blends nicely into its part of whatever song, whereas in Kid A and Amnesiac the electo-whatever seemed to stand out too much. As far as each track goes, each and every song is awesome. I have to admit on the past 2 albums there were a few songs I simply could not get into- I mean, come on, Hunting Bears was kinda cool the first 2 times you listened to it, but it was pretty simple and repetitive and there is no way that could be anyone's favorite song on the album. You will find no Hunting Bears or Treefingers on HTTT. Every song on this one is masterful. I can listen to the entire thing without even thinking about pushing the track forward button.
As each track goes, "2+2=5" is somewhat of a dreamy spooky song until it hits halfway where it explodes into a frantic rock that then holds back a bit with subdued fashion when Thom breaks into falsetto at less intrumented parts.
"Sit Down, Stand Up" is probably one of, if not the favorite song of mine on the album. It too, starts off slowly, with a echoing reverbed electro-sound accompanied by an xylophone, then joined by piano and a soft, non-confronting beat from a drum machine. The lyrics are repetative, "/Sit down, stand Up", over and over, "/Walk into the jaws of Hell", then "/At any time, We can wipe you out any time" accompanied by backup vocals "/Sit Down, stand Up." This slowly builds for nearly 3 minutes until everything changes keys a few times, a sythesizer comes to the front, a drumroll starts the takeover, and everything starts flying a mile a minute with the drums, a bongo-like drum sound, and a ebb/flow bass line pulling everything along with them with the lyrics "/the raindrops" are repeated and driven into our skulls.
"Sail to the Moon" is a quiet song much akin to, say, "How to Disappear Completely" minus the rich guitar.
"Backdrifts" mainly fronts a nice melody via Thom's v-chords, accompanied by nice back up harmony with Ed. This is set against a drum machine bass and given character with guitar and other odds and ends.
"Go to Sleep" is one of their more radio-friendly songs, good, but not spectacular.
"Where I End and You Begin" is also, one of my favorites. You can hear a bit of electro/synth instrumentation here also, but as before it seems to fit the songs way better this time around than past Radiohead efforts. It's got a bit of a wavy-whiny sound in the back that floats the song along, but the song itself is up-tempo with a nice rolling guitar and drums.
"We Suck Young Blood" sleepily begins with just Thom singing, a piano, a clap every 7th beat, and some backup vocal. I admit, though beautiful, this gets very boring. Just about 3 minutes into the song it picks up ever so briefly with a faster piano and some drums, then returns to the sleepy repetitiveness. I'm sure there's something to this song, but it's not the easiest song to get into.
"The Gloaming" heavily leans on a scratchy electronic beat (with what sounds the scratching at the end of a record.) The vocals hold the only melody on the song, but it all fits rather nicely.
"There There" is also another radio-friendly song, a wise choice for their first single. I'm sure you've heard it by now. Kick arse.
"I Will" is one of my other favs. A guitar and a vocal harmony. That's it. And less that 2 and a half minutes. A beautiful song.
"A Punch-up at a Wedding" has a groovy bassline that makes this song stand out a bit more than it should. It has a nice sound as the piano and guitar seem to fight for importance. Everything fits together nicely and the song flows nicely, not straying too far from the path (as far as loudness or energy goes).
"Myxamotosis" is yet another one of my favs. A heavy, somewhat distorted (guitar?) pushes this one forward with a driving drumbeat. Thom's voice is stern, but sleepy as it slides up and down along with the guitar. High synthesizer interjects through most of the song giving it unbelievable depth. And at times, the song pauses, as Thom sings along only with the drum and synths. A truly unique song, that to me, stands out on the album.
"Scatterbrain" features typical Thom vocals. And the song could probably find its way on some radio stations. Beautiful, not too busy (vocals, 2 guitars, bass, drums) not too complex. One of their more lyrically-driven songs.
"Wolf at the Door" feels as if this song were floating in a boat as the melody rises and falls. Thom's voice seems to get wilder as the song progresses as do the drums. A great end to a great album.
And though, I don't see how the end product can be added to or changed or could sound any better, I will definitely buy HTTT when it hits shelves. You really can't compare HTTT to any of their previous albums, but if it could be fair to say, it's like parts of Kid A and Amnesiac were learning experiences, and what they took from that they used to make Hail to the Theif.

Good album. Obviously people have different tastes and will like certain songs on this abum alot better than other songs. But I believe that constant in this album and in most of their previous albums is that there are a very few fill-ins.
My personal favourites from this album:
I will
2+2=5
the Gloaming

As a "newer" fan of the band, I gotta say I'm impressed. I've heard bits and pieces of what they've already accomplished and sent out through the airwaves...but man. This is deffinately what music SHOULD be.

If you respect music, you'll buy this album!

My favorite mentionable tracks have gotta be "There, There" and "Where I End and You Begin"

The last album to come out to blow me this far away was /|nemia by Tool...and that's sayin something right there!

Deffinately album of the year!!!

HTTT is astounding. Not only that, but it get's better, like all RH albums, with time. It's a dark album that sounds nothing previous but still combines elements of the past albums. I like the use of more piano on the album because I think Thoms voice works very well with it. The only poor or weaker tracks are "go to sleep", "punch up at a wedding" and even these are still good and grow in time. I must make a special mention to 2 tracks on the album: "Sail to the Moon" and "I Will" as these are just subliminal songs that really are breathtaking. This album doesn't have the idea of a concept like OKC which is why I would still have to make it their 2nd best album.
My advice. BUY IT!

Why don't you all just download the whole thing? There's nothing stopping you buying a legitimate copy (which may even be a little different to the leaked version) when the album comes out. I don't understand why a major radiohead fan wouldn't get it. You can send them or the record label a cheque for it saying "sorry i couldn't wait and downloaded it" if not paying for it is upsetting you.

As a big fan of the first 3 albums (and the 3rd being a masterpiece), and seeing them live 4 times, I cant help but feel dissapointed with yet another sub-standard electro pap album. They have lost the plot, sorry everyone who obviously loves them on here but they arnt the band they once was. The meolidic wonders of the bends have transformed into something that is a mixture of Moby and Bjork. For all those waiting for the comback album - you're going to be dissapointed, for those who have enjoyed the albums since OKC - more of the same.

Hello, everyone. I was reading all the comments and wanted to add some stuff I thought was overlooked. From the very start, this album rocks and rolls. It's very energetic and warlike in places, yet fragile and subdued in others. It has a vibrancy that Kid A and Amnesiac lacked. I will not say that it's the BEST Radiohead album or the WORST Radiohead album; time till tell when the finished version comes out...

From a production point of view, it's hard to say how things will pan out, because this is unfinished...the songs themselves, though, are interesting and catchy from top to bottom. The chord progressions are interesting and when the band shines through the electronic beeps and buzzes, the band plays better than it ever has. There somehow manages to be some great electronic music, great guitar moments and...if you love Phil, this is your disc! Great stuff from everyone.

This album strikes me as a destination, whereas Kid A/ Amnesiac were places along the road. I see in some of these songs learned lessons from those previous two discs coupled with a nice Bends/OKC-era fire. Nice.

I'm gay and I suck at life. When I said the album is terrible I really meant that all the Radiohead fans should bash me over the head with a bat or run me over with a car. You Mc suck a dick you Stupid Basterd!

I love this album. It's hard to compare to the others. Radiohead's indepence is shown a lot in this record, a lot of experimental tracks and they go back to thier roots in some songs. Hail to the theif is one of their simpler albums but the tracks fit flow together like a dream of sometimes being alone in the dark and sometimes like floating in the clouds of Heaven. A much less disaplined album than the last two but it's Beautiful and surpasses my expectations by a long shot. Keep it Real Radiohead Junkies!

I think the album is tha shit!!! Each song can stang strong on its own, very catchy. I've had Go to Sleep stuck in my head for three days. It's got a very 70's rock style. I think it is good to listen to it before it comes out, these guys make so much money, it's not going to hurt their pocketbooks at all. I wouldn't be suprised if the band leaked it. When you download a cd it hurts the label, not the band. This way more people that other wise wouldn't be able to listen to it because of poverty, or if they're not fans. It is fucking awesome. I've been listening to Hail To THe Theif and Agoraphobic Nosebleed - Altered States oF America, all weekend long. later 666

Hail to the theif this is gonna be the bet album ever you can tell colin has had bass lessons (listen to "there there","myxomatosis" and "sit down stand up") yes i downloaded it but fuck it its so good im gonna buy 3 copies (just to make sure i always have a copy) Thom's vocals have the mentalness of Kid a and Amnesiac but with a confident new well deserved feeling of self assurance. Phils drums surpass even airbag. Jonny playing guitar again need i say more. and jonny and eds sound tones are great. Only one problem where are "Follow me around" "big ideas (nude)" "Big boots" and "Wicked child" they had best be B-sides or on a radiohead boxset or EP anyway this is gonna be this album of the year if you agree buy it twice

best radiohead album ever!  2003-04-10 00:53:24

this is their best album ever, and its not even the final version, every song is great (except maybe i will, im not crazy about that one) i cant stop listening to it. If it isn't the best album of the year then i have lost all faith in the music industry, never heard anything this good.

There's a sense that they really enjoyed making HTTT, and more confidence about what they're doing now than ever before - that really comes across with the new material.

It's the business!

Awesome album! Defintely a cross between OK Computer and Kid A, with some Amnesiac thrown in to it. Radiohead never fails to deliver heartfelt and inspiring lyrics over enchanting melodies. No song they record sounds the same. Awesome album from an awesome band, one of England's finest exports.

bah! i gave in...downloaded the whole thing. they all sound excellent, and they're unmastered cuts, so they'll probably get even better...everyone who has downloaded them could still be in for a surprise. i will still DEFINITELY buy the album - that was never in doubt.

favourite tracks: all of them.

I downloaded it... best thing since OKC, but nothing beats The Bends... But if the guys wanna change, it's their perogative... I love most of the songs, I don't hate any, but I just don't love them with the same passion as I love FakePlastic,BlackStar or StreetSpirit. I will buy it when it's released, but in the meantime it's the main feature on my portable mp3 player...

ok, ok, i know, i know i caved... but everyone was raving about the album.... i couldnt help it anymore!!!!!!!! i have no will power!!!!!!!

anyways, its awesome, no thats an understatement, its brilliiant. RH pulled it off again definitely an improvement from amnesiac, much more uplifting and inspirational. totally OKC meets Kid A. the songs are a little inconsistent with one another, for example the transition between where i end and you begin, and we suck young blood is a little startling, but it gives the album a little more appeal. perfect, perfect, perfect opener and closer. wow what an end to that album- eh? wow. im still shocked by this album, i was expecting another amnesiac, but i liked how they maintained the darkness in their music without producing the exact same album. this album completely enhanced my love for RH.
Oh, and if you download it....buy the album, if for nothing else, you at least have got to see the artwork.

Hail to the thief is at least as good as O.K. and in some ways better. I got good 192 kbps version and am listening now, and...wow. I have only been into this stuff (the band) for like a year but this just is nice. At times smooth, edgy, and haunting all the things I like about the Radiohead. All the tracks are great. I liked the live vocals for Myxamatosis better in the San Sebastion ver though there was that crazy live Idioteque style there that I admire. I can't weight for the final copy (which comes out on my birthday) which I will buy if just for the shwanky artwork. Highlights include 2+2=5, Backdrifts, Sit Down, and Wolf at the Door. And liked Puch up btw, the part "...Hypocrit Opportunist" is cool. Album of the year, to this point, definately, but then the new APC hasn't come out yet so I really can't say yet. Anywho, all Hail radiohead man.

Okay, I gave in. Mmph. What can I say about it?

This album, finished or not, is, and will be, the most startlingly fucking amazing thing that Radiohead have produced in their musical career to date. Sounds like them, basically. Everything in the one place from everything they've done (bar perhaps PH). Love it love it love it love it.

Why would you buy 2 or 3 copies for yourself? I find that a bit strange.. I still have the original copies from the other albums and they still play pretty smooth.. I try not to get them scratched up and all that.. I'm pretty good with my CD's actually, and my brothers CDs. Oh what were we talking about? HT (Hail to the Thief, sucka) is not bad.. and listening to the unfinished copies make me anticipate buying the album in June so much more.. oh man oh man oh man.. I'm not gonna download the finished copies though, ya know? I'll wait til June, these ones will do me just fine til then.

httt = hail to the theif , new radiohead album.
the tracks got leaked on P2p.

i downloaded the whole album and put it in order.
first i must say, that this is sort of like amnesiac crossed with ok computer. make no doubt it is a dark album. it starts out sort of poppy/electronic and takes a turn for the very dark at track 7. track 7 is like glass house.

however, it seems to have a sort of uplifting quality that Amnesiac and Kid A lacked. the songs are very organic, they sound like they were recorded on tape. the drums come through with this great fuzz ala OKC.

but then again there's lots of electronic blips etc ala KidA/amnesiac so there was also some pro tools going on. the one really cool thing about this album is it has ROCK OUT parts. yes, i'm serious. radiohead rock out like they havent rocked out in the past 2 albums. like guitar distortion the works.

I like this album alot, I would say for sure its better than Amnesiac, I dunno, you can't really comparte it to Kid A (they ver -very- different) . the opener is great.

the last track is a fucking masterpiece. thom's voice on a wolf at the door sounds nothing like him, and he talks very fast "steel toed boots, kick you in the teeth steal yr credit cards etc" its really cool tho.

in between is a mixed bag, but overall this is a very strong album. i'm not going to complain about volumes or anything cuz i realized these were the "rough cuts" from back in feburary.

anyway, u won't be disappointed if you download, but you'll probably getting the wrong volumes and you won't be getting any special intra-track bridging that I'm sure will be on the real deal.

all the tracks are strong, with the exception of the gloaming, and i would say that's more of a bridge track anyway. the other song i didn't like is punch up at a wedding,. the rest are great.

if u cant wait download it.
YEEAH

Hell, why not download it. I'll buy 2 or 3 copies anyway, like I have for the other albums. It's obviously unmastered and still sounds wonderful.

Radiohead indeed. Good stuff.

i would love to say i'm patient enough to wait for the album to come out.....

but sadly, i couldn't wait...

my mate gave me a copy of "hail to the thief" the other day, and (excuse me while i weep) i have to say it is possibly the best album radiohead have ever produced. stand out tracks...well i cant really pick a stand out track there all amazing (no, really). but then would i expect any less of radiohead?

another thing radiohead have always done with there albums, is the interesting artwork, now im excited about seeing that!

(still upset about the exclusion of "big ideas" though)

:)

I tried so hard to resist the urge to d/l HTTF but as soon as a saw I could it was calling to me in my sleep.....the voices told me to do it....

first impressions, as with all new rh stuff, was that it was amazing. Now I have had time to mull it over and I still feel the same. Its possibly not as good as most people will belive it will be it it is still very very very good.

there's a difference between fandom and worship, guys. But whatever, everyone's entitled to their own opinion. As for not downloading the leaked album--I don't really see why not. I mean, my guess is that most ppl here would buy the album once released anyway.

and it was 2+2=5 which was my fav of the new songs since last summers shows
sounds like the unmixed version to me. hmm.
but i need to change my pants now

i have downloaded the album and listened to it many times through. and it is good. but then again every radiohead album is, but its not the usual radiohead album, its different, but at the same time exactly the same as every other album. i downloaded it cos i wanna hear it before i see them at manchester.

but i am still doubtful its the real deal.

but by all means i will buy it, and hopefully buy a special edition too.

but those of you tht havnt d/l it DONT, i wish i hadnt in some ways

do it the way the band wnated you to hear it.

Did download it last know, after some knowledgable friend told me it was indeed The Real thing and not some Salamanca bootleg (although he told it could be the "pre-mixing" versioin of HTTT). Didn't get the time to listen to it yet, but I will.
You see, I've been SO disapointed by the San Sebastian gig (yes, I pretty much thought the new songs were dull at best, even crap sometimes, ranging from "Pyramid Song-type of chords/rythm/song all over again" to "WTF ? Idioteque was rocking, but this is just ridiculous"). All in all, this gig made me kinda louse my faith in Rh's creative ability (after two hald-albums (yet, I burnt my own Kid Amnesiac, thank you), that probably was bound to happen).
That's why, I haven't bought any concert ticket. That's why I intend to listen to it first and then maybe buy it, and then maybe go to a concert. Just like I do for any band now. I won't follow blindly anymore. I trust Rh can still write good songs, and I truly hope HTTT will be as good as all the fans say it is. Fingers crossed.

I will wait patiently to buy the album with my greedy little hands. This will require some form of mental strength....please send said mental strength to me however you deem necessary. Strength will not be returned to you and you will not be compensated for any of the strength you send carelessly my way. Thank you and have a nice day.

i only d/l:ed two tasters. i'm pissed that it leaked, but i don't wanna feel left out. so i went the middle way. i don't think i'm gonna d/l any more. but from what i've heard (I Will and There There) HTTT is a fucking masterpiece. My whole body shivered and i just sat staqring and breathign slowly. Maybe i'm too much of a RH-fan to judge, but i believe There There to be the best single that has been released since... since... i don't know when.
